Games Evening

“Friendships forged amongst parents at Valley social evenings have often long outlasted the friendships between their children”.
This annual fundraiser has become a tradition at Valley and, for the children, it is the highlight of the year which is talked about for weeks afterwards. It is an evening of fun for family and friends with music, entertainment, braai’s and refreshments. A variety of games are set up in every classroom as well as the playgrounds and the children pay R5.00 and collect a sticker for each game they play. At the end of the evening they exchange their stickers for a lovely prize (irrespective of how many stickers they have collected, every child gets a prize). Parents help to run the games and then socialize around the braai’s and get to know each other, whilst the children are entertained with a Magic show. Entrance tickets are R50.00 per adult and R20.00 per child. Games as well as Food & Drink booklets can be purchased as well.

Sandcastle Competition

The Valley Pre-Primary Sandcastle Competition, held annually in March, has become a favourite fixture on the Cape Town beach calendar. This fun-filled family outing is also open to the broader community and provides a great opportunity to get children from all walks of life to experience the joy of turning sand into art. Fantastic prizes, food and drink stalls, music, a magic show and the ever popular kids’ zone for both sandcastle builders and spectators are all part of the day. Teams of between two and eight people may enter under various categories including Corporate, Schools, Teens, Family, and Kiddies. All money raised in the Sandcastle Competition is used to provide bursaries to enable children from less privileged communities in Hout Bay to attend Valley and also to provide educational support as required. For more information about how to enter or to get involved as a sponsor visit www.houtbaysandcastle.co.za or phone Valley Pre-Primary School on 021 790 1540.

Sports Day

Sports Day is is held every year on the Kronendal Sports Field. The emphasis is on FUN not on winning i.e. participation will be non-competitive and non-threatening and parents will be given a chance to enjoy physical activities with their children. The evening kicks off with a mini-walk for the whole family of 5 laps around the school field. Children get sponsored per lap by friends and family. After a break for supper of boerewors rolls, chicken burgers, hotdogs or cheese rolls, and liquid refreshments, the games begin with classes competing against each other in flat races, sack races, and relays. There are also races for parents and siblings.

Parents Picnic

Valley used to celebrate Mothers Day in May & Fathers Day in June, as per the calendar.   However, it very often happened that, due to work commitments, mom/dad were unable to attend their specific function leaving us with some very sad  children.  At Valley, we have solved this by combining the two events into a Parent Day Picnic in the hope that at least one parent will be able to attend.   This should also accommodate families with single or same gender parents. Bring a picnic blanket and your picnic (eats and drinks) to share with your child.
