Events

Valley’s fundraising committee is inspired and driven by the parents and as such, our events are constantly evolving and refreshingly original each year. Here are four of our favourites that have proven to be fun and successful year upon year.

Games Evening

Definitely the children’s favourite, games evening provides fun for all the family and a great way of forging friendships at the beginning of the year. Each class devises a handful of fun and simple games and the children race around the school trying to play as many as they can, collecting bagfuls of little prizes for their efforts. The evening culminates with the children ensconced in a magic show while the parents show off their Spiderman face paint in the bar and braai area!

Sandcastle Competition

So much more than a fundraiser, this event has now become a Hout Bay institution and attracts the attention of the whole community as well as corporate sponsorship. Teams, families and individuals begin planning their masterpiece long before the event in March and the creations have to be seen to be believed (see the Photo Gallery). This is an immensely fun and enjoyable way to spend the morning with stalls and entertainment laid on to distill the competitive tension until the prizes are handed out at noon! And then, at lunchtime, nothing beats the childhood joy of jumping on all those works of art, and that’s just the dads!

Sports Day

Sports Day is centered around the children and focused on fun and socialising. Valley children, their siblings and their parents are all given a chance to compete in fun races on the Kronendal field. To keep up their energy levels they indulge in breakfast treats such as bacon and egg rolls, hot dogs, doughnuts and hot chocolate. See pics in the Photo Gallery.

Auction Evening

This event has enjoyed various incarnations over the years. Whether the venue is the school playground around an informal braai or a 3 course meal at a local restaurant, the objective is an entertaining evening and some retail therapy. Parents bid on donated lots comprising anything from bottles of wine to weekends away but by far the fiercest bidding is generated by the class paintings. These stunning works of art created on a canvas by each class have been known to invite bids worthy of a Richard Scott!
