Sonwabile Bursary Programme

Valley Pre-Primary is committed to providing a positive learning experience not only to those children who can afford it but also to those from a less privileged background. Valley Pre-Primary’s bursary programme "Sonwabile" (meaning we are happy) aims to reach out to the larger Hout Bay community. Through this programme we strive to reflect the wonderful multi-cultural society that is Hout Bay.

Valley Pre-Primary allocates bursaries according to a careful selection process. During this process, the applicant is assessed emotionally, socially and academically. We are committed to providing a positive learning environment, which recognizes the uniqueness of all children. The child's history, parents and former teachers are also consulted. Each child’s case is carefully considered on its own merit. The level of parental commitment and support is also taken into account.

Valley offers ten bursaries at the school, which cover 50% of the annual school fees for each pupil. Language enrichment classes are provided for children whose 1st language is not English.

Valley is proud that some of our former bursary children have been elected as prefects in high school and many have excelled academically. As with all our children we strive to provide them with a foundation which enables them to realize their full academic, moral, physical and social potential, thereby producing happy, confident children equipped to take their rightful place in society as well balanced, responsible and independent adults. We like to think that they, in turn, will give back to their community utilizing the valuable life skills and education they have attained.
